Little Shop of Horrors | OCT 6-22, 2023

Book and Lyrics by Howard Ashman
Music by Alan Menken
Based on the film by Roger Corman
Screenplay by Charles Griffith

A deviously delicious sci-fi smash musical, Little Shop Of Horrors has devoured the hearts of theater-goers for over 30 years. Howard Ashman and Alan Menken (Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Beauty and The Beast, and Aladdin) are the creative geniuses behind what has become one of the most popular musicals of stage and screen.

The meek floral assistant, Seymour Krelborn, has a crush on his coworker, Audrey, and stumbles across an exotic new breed of plant he names “Audrey II” in her honor. But it’s no ordinary plant. This foul-mouthed carnivorous monster promises unending fame and fortune to the down and out Krelborn as long as he keeps feeding it…blood.

Contains mature situations and may not be appropriate for younger audiences.

A Christmas Story | NOV 24-DEC 10, 2023

A Comedy adapted by Philip Grecian
Based on the motion picture A Christmas Story © 1983 Turner Entertainment Co., distributed by Warner Bros.
Written by Jean Shepherd, Leigh Brown and Bob Clark;
Based on the book In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash by Jean Shepherd

Humorist Jean Shepherd’s memoir of growing up in the midwest in the 1940s follows 9-year-old Ralphie Parker in his quest to get a genuine Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas. Ralphie pleads his case before his mother, his teacher, and even Santa Claus himself at Higbee’s Department Store. The consistent response: “You’ll shoot your eye out!”

All the elements from the beloved motion picture are here, including the family’s temperamental exploding furnace; Scut Farkas, the school bully; the boys’ experiment with a wet tongue on a cold lamppost; the Little Orphan Annie decoder pin; Ralphie’s father winning a lamp shaped like a woman’s leg in a net stocking; Ralphie’s fantasy scenarios and more. A Christmas Story is destined to become a theatrical holiday perennial.

*Special matinée followed by the annual Lancaster Fire Truck Christmas Parade. There will be no street parking allowed on Central and West Main Street at this performance; all guests should use the Clark Street parking lot.

Rehearsal for Murder | JAN 26-FEB 11, 2024

A mystery adapted for the stage by D. D. Brooke
From the television play by Richard Levinson and William Link.

Alex Dennison is a playwright engaged to actress Monica Welles. But on the opening night of her new Broadway play, she kills herself over some bad reviews. Thoroughly distraught, Alex can’t believe she’d commit suicide and begins to suspect she was actually murdered. Under the pretext of having them read for his new play, Alex invites all of the suspicious parties to an empty theater and locks them in until the truth comes out.

The Pajama Game | MAR 8-24, 2024

Book by George Abbott and Richard Bissel
Music and Lyrics by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross

The Pajama Game was awarded the 1955 Tony for Best Musical and, over half of a century later, claimed the award for Best Revival of a Musical, proving that the story is truly timeless. With an energetic score by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross (Damn Yankees), The Pajama Game is brimming with songs and dances that have become musical theater standards, including “Steam Heat” and “Hernando’s Hideaway.”

Conditions at the Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory are anything but peaceful as sparks fly between new superintendent, Sid Sorokin, and Babe Williams, the leader of the union grievance committee. Their stormy relationship comes to a head when the workers strike for a 7 ½ cent pay increase, setting off not only a conflict between management and labor, but a battle of the sexes as well.

Airness | APR 19-MAY 5, 2024

A Comedy with Music by Chelsea Marcantel

When Nina enters her first air guitar competition, she thinks winning will be easy. But as she befriends a group of charismatic nerds all committed to becoming the next champion, she discovers that there’s more to this art form than playing pretend; it’s about finding yourself in your favorite songs, and performing with raw joy. Will Nina be able to let go and set herself free onstage? Following her mission to shred or be shredded, Airness is an exuberant reminder that everything we need to rock is already inside us. A comedy about competition, completion, and finding the airness inside yourself.

Contains mature situations and adult language. Not appropriate for younger audiences and those easily offended.

The Producers | JUN 7-23, 2024

Book by Mel Brooks & Thomas Meehan
Music and Lyrics by Mel Brooks
Original direction and choreography by Susan Stroman
By special arrangement with StudioCanal

Bialystock and Bloom! Those names should strike terror and hysteria in anyone familiar with Mel Brooks’ classic cult comedy film. Now as a big Broadway musical, The Producers once again sets the standard for modern, outrageous, in-your-face humor. It is a truly “boffo” hit, winning a record twelve Tony Awards and wowing capacity crowds night after night.

The plot is simple: a down-on-his-luck Broadway producer and his mild-mannered accountant come up with a scheme to produce the most notorious flop in history, thereby bilking their backers (all “little old ladies”) out of millions of dollars. Only one thing goes awry: the show is a smash hit! The antics of Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom as they maneuver their way fecklessly through finding a show (the gloriously offensive “Springtime for Hitler”), hiring a director, raising the money, and finally going to prison for their misdeeds, is a lesson in broad comic construction. At the core of the insanely funny adventure is a poignant emotional journey of two very different men who become friends.
